Texas Department of Transportation data show that reported crashes along U.S. 380 through Princeton fell from 16 before the October 5 lane shift at Beauchamp to 7 after.
None of those crashes occurred overnight.
The figures come from police crash reports recorded in TxDOT’s Crash Records Information System (CRIS) and cover the period from September 5 through November 1, 2025.
According to the reviewed data, heat maps and cluster maps also show fewer crash points near Beauchamp after the traffic shift.
The Data
• Before (Sept. 5 to Oct. 4): 16 crashes
• After (Oct. 5 to Nov. 1): 7 crashes
• Nighttime (9 PM to 5 AM): 0 before, 0 after
• Overall change: 56 percent decrease
What It Suggests
Despite concerns raised about the traffic shift and nightly lane closures, the available crash data show fewer reported crashes after the lane change took effect.
That does not mean traffic disruption disappeared, but it does suggest that the work zone configuration has not produced the crash increase some residents feared, at least during the first month measured.
Ongoing Project Timeline
TxDOT says the U.S. 380 reconstruction project remains on schedule and is still expected to continue for roughly two and a half years.
The Princeton Journal will continue tracking crash data and work zone changes on a monthly basis as the project moves forward.
